of interest, we would really like to hear from you.
The archaeology of East Ilsley is starting to be researched by the Society
and covers four areas to date:
- Landscape archaeology - looking at how the
local landscape has changed over the centuries with farming practices. This is
closely linked to the land usage.
- Earthworks surveys - recording the 'lumps &
bumps' that are still visible on the surface of open areas. So far Pen Meadow
has been surveyed
- Geophysics surveys - using 'geophys' to try to
identify archaeology that is hidden from view. Some preliminary work is
looking promising.
- Archaeological digs - uncovering the past in your
back garden!
